Covering an area of 188 hectares, it is a royal garden featuring mountains and forests. The main peak of the park is Incense Burner Peak is 575 meters above sea level. Built in the 26th year of the Dading period of the Jin Dynasty, Fragrant Hill Park has a history of nearly 900 years. As early as in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, imperial palaces were built on Fragrant Hills. Every summer and autumn, the emperors would go here to hunt and cool off. Fragrant Hills Temple was once the top of the temples in western Beijing. In the 10th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1745), a large construction project was built here to build the famous 28 scenic spots in the capital. The Emperor Qianlong gave it the name of Jing Yi Garden. Among the famous "three mountains and five gardens" in western Beijing, Fragrant Hills Park accounts for one of the mountains (Fragrant Hill) and one of the gardens (Jing Yi Garden). In 1956, it was opened as the People's Park.
There are many cultural relics and monuments in the park, and the buildings and pavilions are scattered among the mountains and forests like stars. There is the "Sunny Western Hills after Snow", one of the eight scenic spots in Beijing, the "Biyun Temple", the only remaining wooden gilded " Five Hundred Arhats", the palace for welcoming the Sixth Panchen and the Jianxin Study, a quaint courtyard with the characteristics of Jiangnan and so on.
Fragrant Hills Park has so many trees that the forest coverage rate is as high as 96%, making it one of the areas with the highest negative oxygen ions in Beijing. There are more than 5,800 ancient and famous trees here, accounting for a quarter of Beijing's urban area. With the unique connotation of "mountains and rivers, famous springs, ancient trees and red leaves", it is a summer resort and a natural oxygen bar.
Located at the southern foot of the famous Xishan Mountain Scenic Area in Beijing, Badachu Park is a national AAAA-level scenic spot and the first batch of Beijing's key cultural relics protection units after the founding of the People' s Republic of China. It is a mountainous Buddhist temple garden with a long history, far-reaching reputation and favorable feng shui location.
Located at the foot of Xishan Mountain, Beijing Botanical Garden covers an area of 400 hectares. It is a comprehensive botanical garden that mainly collects, displays and preserves plant resources, and integrates scientific research, scientific popularization, sightseeing and recreation, plant germplasm resource conservation and new superior plant development functions.
Beijing Xishan National Forest Park is the closest national forest park to downtown Beijing.
