Beijing National Indoor Stadium (国家体育馆)

The National Indoor Stadium, nicknamed “the Fan” due to its design resembling a traditional Chinese unfolding fan. The curved roof of the stadium, steel skeleton vertically distributed around and massive glittering and translucent glass curtain walls constitute an image of Chinese unfolding fan. The unfolding fan adjoins the flat-roofed Water Cube in the south and China National Convention Center (CNCC) with a curve roof in the north, forming a harmonious landscape of the Olympic Park!

The National Indoor Stadium is composed of the main building - Warm-Up Hall, and outdoor environment. It is the perfect combination of traditional Chinese architectural aesthetics and contemporary architectural style. It is said that folding fan bears profound meaning and is an integral part of Chinese culture.

The National Indoor Stadium was one of the three main venues for the Beijing Olympic Games. It, located in the southern part of the center of the Olympic Park, is one of the landmark buildings of the park. With tailor-made gray seats and covering an area of 80,890 square meters, the stadium is adjacent to the axis square in the east, the National Aquatics Center in the south, the Digital Beijing Mansion in the west, and the National Convention Center in the north.

After the Olympic Games, the National Indoor Stadium sought to build a bridge between culture and sports. It collaborated with multiple parties in stage set-up, lighting and acoustics, satellite broadcasting, catering and security, application for administrative approval, digital sports, etc. It pushed for diversification into existing business and developed a model of operation featuring professional hotel management and one-stop services in the stadium run in accordance with the market economy, successfully shifting from an Olympic Games venue to post-games operation. As a first-class sports facility in China, the National Indoor Stadium will become a public activity center that combines sports competitions and cultural entertainment and provides a wide range of services.
