Shengan Temple (圣安寺)

Located at Nanhengjie, Xuanwumenwai, Xicheng District, Shengan Temple, or relic site of Shengan Temple, was first built during 1123-1135. It is said the temple was built by Fo Jue and and Huitang. It is called Liuhu (Willow Lake) Temple for there were willows and a lake near the temple. In 1446, the temple was renovated and renamed Puji Temple. After the renovation in 1776, the temple changed its name back to Shengan Temple.
A scholartree in the temple is more than a thousand years old now, and the temple is the only site of the Jin Dynasty besides Lugou Bridge in Beijing, so it requires the protection from the government.

There are 5 halls in the temple including Daxiong Baodian, Houdian, Ruixiang Pavilion, Tianwang Hall, Dongpeidian and Xipei Dian. There are 3 states of Buddiha which are relics of the Ming dynasty. The wall paintings were painted by Shang Xi, the famous painter of the Ming dynasty. However, the paintings and the status was destroyed in the 1960s and the Ruixiang Pavilion was moved to Taoranting Park.
