Xizhao Temple is the most clean and tidy temple in southeast Beijing. The date of its construction was obscure, but someone said it was built in Ming Dynasty, the branch of Xishan Temple. Its name took from JIntai Xizhao, one of the eight sights in Beijing.
Xizhao Temple was repaired during the years of Emperor Qianlong and then reconstructed in the third year of Emperor Jiaqing. Covering an area of 13,333 square meters, it has 108 rooms. Facing south, it consists of Shanmen Hall, Mahavira Hall, Dabei Hall, side halls, Buddhist Abbot Hall, Backyard, Brick Pagoda, Coffin Keeping Room etc. The stone board of the Shanmen Hall was inscribed as “Historical Sites Xizhao Temple”.
