Wangquanyu Great Wall (旺泉峪长城)

Wangquanyu Great Wall lies in the east of Dazhenyu Village. An ancient village called Wangquanyu is below the wall, which got its name because of a spring named Wangquan. This section stretched along the mountains looks like a bowknot, which is the highlight of Wangquanyu Great Wall.

The section of Wangquanyu Great Wall is not very long. It consists of 8 watchtowers of which two watchtowers stand on the top of the mountain in the west, and the other 6 are situated on the top of the mountain peaks in the east. Although the section is about 2 km, the drop heights reaches 390 meters, which is 60 meters steeper than the section from Jiankou Great Wall (known as “Beijing Knot”) to Cashikou Great Wall (the elevation drop of this section is 330 meters). Therefore, it will make you feel tired if you keep walking on it.

The essence of Wangquanyu lies in the route between Sanchabian and Wangquanyu Pass. You can find “Yushi Tower”, “Binguan Tower” and other exquisitely built watchtowers; and also you can see amazing sights such as the “Turtle- shaped Lock” and the “Bowknot”. This section of the Great Wall was constructed and repaired in a period of 176 years from 1404 to 1580, when the construction and repairing work continued on and off.
