Baihebao Reservoir is located in the north of Xiangying Township, 30 kilometers away from Yanqing District in Beijing. Named after the Jing'an Fort in the Ming Dynasty, which guarded the Baihe River Canyon, it is the fifth largest and the highest reservoir (560 meters above the sea) in Beijing.
It is also the fifth largest reservoir of Beijing and the highest one with 560 meters high, located on the trunk steam of Baihe River, 30 km from Yanqing District, with its northwest connecting with Chicheng County of Hebei Province. The Baihe Gorge is a rare great canyon scenic spot around Beijing.
In winter, the left mountains are covered by snow and ice, forming magnificent icy waterfalls, while the Baihe River is in ice blockage, like a huge white dragon coiling in the gorge, thus forming peculiar scenes. The landscapes for the 380 km self-driving tour are mainly around the reservoir, into the gorge and along the gorge.
