The Yongding river area used to be one of the five major sources of sandstorms in Beijing. In the 1990s, there littered sand and gravel fields, which contaminated natural environment along the banks of the river. At the beginning of the 21st Century, the sand and gravel fields were gradually shut down, followed by greening projects. More than ten large-scale voluntary tree planting bases have been established, which has greatly improved the natural environment and well curbed sand storms. This has greatly improved the surroundings of the Yongding River. Furthermore, Lvdi Park connects the ancient Wanping city and Lugou Bridge, forming pleasant eco-landscapes and paving way for ecological tourism.
