Agong Ama Taiwanese Restaurant (Lidu Branch)

Taiwanese cuisine is relatively light and delicate, primarily based on Min (Fujian) cuisine while also incorporating Hakka cooking techniques. It has evolved through influences from Dutch and Japanese cultures, combined with local Taiwanese produce and dietary habits, making it a cuisine that encompasses a variety of flavors and styles.

Taiwanese cuisine is quite niche within Beijing's dining scene. Agong Ama Taiwanese Restaurant, which opened in 2018 in the Chaoyang District, may still be unfamiliar to many people but is dedicated to serving authentic Taiwanese dishes.

This restaurant is quite special, incorporating numerous Taiwanese elements into its design. The decor includes features like old Taiwanese streets, postal mailboxes, and hand-painted lanterns, along with artifacts personally brought back from Taiwan by the founder, all to provide an immersive experience for customers. Sitting in this restaurant with such a strong Taiwanese vibe, diners feel as if they are in a local Taiwanese eatery—novel and cozy.

Stepping inside, you get a sense of nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s. The ceiling is adorned with beautiful round paper lanterns. The vintage atmosphere is enhanced by old-style wooden doors and windows, red brick walls, old posters, signs, New Year paintings, and antique furniture, creating a full retro ambiance.

Pan-Fried Pork Liver

One of their signature dishes, the pork liver here is elevated to the sophistication of foie gras. With a rich, brown color and a slightly sweet flavor, it's best enjoyed hot. There's no hint of gaminess or bitterness, and the texture is incredibly tender. It's no wonder this dish is a favorite-highly recommended.

Three-Cup Chicken

This dish truly stands out in Beijing. Made entirely with tender chicken thigh meat, it is flavorful, succulent, and perfectly seasoned with the right balance of ginger, garlic, chili, and soy sauce. A must-try!

Braised Pork Rice

A perfect combination of richly flavored braised pork and rice, this dish is incredibly satisfying. The pork is tender, juicy, and well-seasoned with a sweet and savory sauce that seeps into every grain of rice, making it a comforting and delightful experience.

At just 12 yuan per bowl, it's not only affordable but also delicious. Definitely a must-try.

This charming Taiwanese restaurant, though seemingly niche, offers a warm and refreshing ambiance. It's an ideal spot for young people to visit, take photos, and enjoy the romantic and beautiful vibe reminiscent of a Taiwanese movie. If this sounds appealing, come and give it a try!
