Sino-French University originated from the movement of work-study program in France in the early 20th century, which has played an important role in the history of modern Chinese education and in the history of Sino-French cultural exchanges. From its establishment in 1920 to its closure in 1950, Sino-French University insisted to carry out the policies for running the school proposed by its first principal, Cai Yuanpei. The university cultivated a number of students with patriotic feelings and progressive thoughts. Chen Yi, once engaged a work-study program in France, entered Sino-French University in 1923 and served as the Party branch secretary of the University from 1924 to 1925, which was his first position in Communist Party of China.
The Site of Headquarters of Ji-Re-Cha Army-to-Push Forward of the Eighth Routh Army is located in a courtyard house in Zhaitang Town, Malan Village. The courtyard towards the south and its gate is located in the southeast corner.
Zhaojialou Hotel, located at No. 1 Zhaojialou Hutong, Dongcheng District, is a pink five-story building. The wall at the entrance of the hotel is inlaid with a relief of a group of students.
Then Fu Jen Catholic University sat at the Mansion of Baylor Lien Tao which has be designated as one of Beijing’s Key Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the Municipal Level. It used to be the mansion of Prince Yu, also known as Wang Yunyu, the fifth son of Kangxi Emperor.
There are two special exhibitions in the auditorium and teaching building, themed "The Spread of Marxism in Early China" and "The Glorious Course of the Sinicization of Marxism". Having been integrated into the century-old buildings, the exhibitions display the spread and development of Marxism in China in a comprehensive and systematic way, making the important history embedded in the site of Sino-French University glow in the new era.
