Ming City Walls Ruins Park

The Ming City Wall Ruins Park is located in the central area of Beijing from Chongwenmen East Street to Dongbianmen. The total area of the park is about 15.5 hectares, including 3.3 hectares of city wall ruins and the southeast corner tower, and 12.2 hectares of green space. The Ming Dynasty City Wall from Dongbianmen to Chongwenmen is one of the only two remaining Ming Dynasty City Walls in Beijing. Historically, the Ming Dynasty City Wall is 25 kilometers long and was first built in the 17th year of the Yongle Period of the Ming Dynasty (1419 AD), and has a history of over 580 years.
For historical reasons, the original city walls of Beijing have ceased to exist in their entirety. The existing 1.5-kilometer-long city wall from Chongwenmen to the southeast corner tower of the city is the only remaining section of the original inner city wall, which is also a symbol of the city of Beijing. This section of the city wall was first built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The southeast corner tower of the city is the largest remaining corner tower of the city wall in China, which was built in the first year of the Zhengtong era of the Ming Dynasty (1436 AD) and is a national key cultural relics protection unit.
Using a simple design, the park highlights the beauty of the ruined city walls. Strolling through the park, there are ancient trees and green grass. The long and simple Ming City Wall and the solid corner towers seem to be telling people the vicissitudes of the nation. The "Old Trees and Ming Walls", "Walking around the Ruined Walls" and "New Charm of Ancient Buildings" and other sceneries in the park have a long history and rich connotation, showing the profound cultural accumulation of Chongwenmen, which adds infinite reverie to people's mind.
