Drum Tower (鼓楼)

Beijing's Drum Tower is one of the best tourist sites to visit in Beijing. It is located to the north of Dianmenwai Street. The area where the tower stands was the oldest commercial area in Old Beijing. According to the construction principle at that time, the Beijing Drum Tower Street which is in the right astern of the imperial city was one of the most important parts in the capital of the Yuan Dynasty. Both sides of Beijing's Drum Tower were crowded with the wealthy and the ordinary. In the lane there were many courtyards of influential officials and elegant houses of ordinary people.

After the protective repairing of the Beijing Drum Tower Street, many old but famous shops were attracted to settle here because of its reputation and 242 shops entered the garrison successively.
