Yuan Chonghuan Memorial (袁崇焕纪念馆)

Yuan Chonghuan (1584-1630), also known as Yuansu and Zi Ru, was a famed politician and military commander of the late Ming Dynasty, who battled the Later Kin in Liaoning.
At the top of the gate of Yuan’s Memorial is a plaque inscribed by Ye Gongchuo, a famous democrat and master of calligraphy and painting. It reads, “Tomb of Yuan Chonghuan, the national martyr of the Ming Dynasty.”
A three-room funerary temple is located at the center of the yard, with two rooms on the east and west wings respectively. The portrait of Yuan is enshrined in the funerary temple. Two verses of him interpreted as “we fight not for position and wealth, but for the humiliation to be wiped out” are put on the both sides of the portrait.
A door on the back of the temple leads to the cemetery of General Yuan, which centers round a grey tomb with a conspicuous monument that reads “the tomb of General Yuan.” The walls on the east and west are embedded with some stone-carved inscriptions, including “the Chapter of the Temple of the Ming’s General Yuan” by Kang Youwei.
The temple of General Yuan (the temple of Yuan Chonghuan) is located in Longtan Park that is the site of the former Xin Guangdong Yiyuan near Zuoanmen.
