Feng Ze Yuan

Feng Ze Yuan is a time-honored restaurant specializing in Shandong Cuisine. The restaurant is housed in a quadrangle courtyard , facing the east of Meishi Street in the front, and the original Huabei Theater in the south. Since its establishment in 1930, Feng Ze Yuan became ever more famous. There is even a folk rhyme about the restaurant—“One goes to Tong Ren Tang for the medicine, Liu Bi Ju the sauce, Nei Lian Sheng the shoes and Feng Ze Yuan the dishes.” Feng Ze Yuan availed itself of the opportunity to expand business. It is recorded that Luan Xuetang, shopkeeper of Feng Ze Yuan, once opened branches at places like Jinjiang Park Hotel and Yuyuan Road in Shanghai, Kaifeng in Henan Province (right in front of Bao Zheng’s court) and the former site of Tianjin Goubuli.
The Shandong cuisine served at Feng Ze Yuan Restaurant mainly features two flavors from Jinan and Jiaodong. The dishes are characteristically clear, fresh, aromatic, crispy and tender. The cuisine is particularly savory. Feng Ze Yuan is famous for its various cooking skills like frying, stir-frying, stewing and quick-frying, etc. Some famous dishes are braised sea cucumber with scallion, fried meatballs and stewed cuttlefish roe.
