The Gold Coast National Nature Reserve of Changli is located on the coast of Changli County, Qinhuangdao City, which is at the northeast of Hebei Province. It covers 300 square kilometers with two sections divided: the land area and the sea area. The land area is of 91.5 square kilometers while the sea area is of 208.5 square kilometers.
The main subjects of the conservation work in the reserve are the sandy coastal natural landscape composed of sand dunes, sand dikes, lagoons, forest belts and Marine biology, and the ecological environment and natural resources of the sea area. They form a typical shore section for the study of Marine dynamic process and sea and land changes, which have important ecological value, scientific research value and ornamental value.
On September 30,1990, mandated by the State Council, the Changli Gold Coast National Nature Reserve in Hebei Province was established.
Hebei Changli Gold Coast National Nature Reserve is one of the districts in China with the highest distribution density of Wenchang fish, and one of the main habitats of “Rare birds of the world”-Black-headed Gull. The Seven Mile Sea Lagoon within the reserve is a typical enclosed modern lagoon in China, with important protection and scientific research value. The reserve is of great significance for the protection of natural resources, studying Marine dynamics and sea and land changes, protecting the marine, marine ecological environment and biodiversity, and the development of coastal tourism.
