When it comes to Beijing, we cannot help but mention hutongs.
Xizhuan Hutong was built during the Ming Dynasty and was originally called "Zhuan'er Hutong" and this name was used until the Qing Dynasty. With the Lianhua Hutong serving as the boundary, the northern section was called "Hou Zhuan'er Hutong", while the southern section was called "Qian Zhuan'er Hutong". In the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, it was collectively referred to as the "Xizhuan Hutong", a name that has been used until today.
