Villagers gathered here because of the canal, and the village prospered because of the canal. During the busy canal transportation period, this was the first dock for civilian merchant ships entering Beijing, embodying a thousand years of canal history and canal commercial civilization. It is suitable for history and folklore enthusiasts to visit. In the east of Matou Cun, there is a hundred-meter cultural wall where visitors can watch scenes of dock vendors working hard during the heyday of canal transportation, as well as enjoy the cultural heritage of specialty snacks such as squeaky boxes, Qiji sesame oil, rice cakes, Wangjia steamed buns, and folk customs like the Xiaochihui and Ludenghui.
Grand Canal is becoming more vibrant, with sightings of White-browed Bush Robins, Black-headed Gulls, Siberian Rubythroats, and Black Sea Pochards frequently breaking records of bird species in Tongzhou and even Beijing.
