Did you know that hidden in the mountains of western Beijing's Mentougou District lies an ancient village renowned for its educational heritage? Back in the Ming and Qing Dynasties when imperial examination system were introduced, the village had cultivated twenty-two recommended men (juren), two advanced scholars (jinshi) and more than ten Guozijian students (jiansheng).

Highlights:
Built in the Ming Dynasty, Wenchang Pavilion faces south and is dedicated to Wenchang Dijun, the Taoist deity of culture and literature. This deity was believed to govern success in the imperial examinations.
Stop 2 Kuixing Tower

Highlights:
Constructed before the Ming Dynasty, Kuixing Tower is a two-story wooden structure facing west. It enshrines Kuixing, one of the 28 Chinese constellations, who is revered as the deity overseeing literary success. This tower was a frequent place of worship for scholars seeking success in their exams.

The Scholar Residences are well-preserved homes of former scholars such as Liu Zengguang. These traditional courtyard houses feature grand gates, decorative walls, high steps, and beautifully carved beams, embodying the refinement of rural architecture.
