HANMEILIN Art Museum

In 2006, Mr. Han Meilin donated 2,000 pieces of artworks that he had been creating for decades to the People's Government of Tongzhou District, Beijing. In order to collect and display these precious works, to demonstrate Mr. Han's love for the motherland and Chinese culture and to spread his aesthetic ideas, the Tongzhou District Government built this art hall with an area of nearly 10,000 square meters in the Opera Cultural Theme Park. It integrates the aesthetic concepts of Eastern and Western architecture. On June 25, 2008, the Han Meilin Art Museum in Beijing was officially inaugurated in Tongzhou. This quiet and atmospheric building has become a cultural treasure and humanistic landscape of the capital city of Beijing. Moreover, it reflects with the "Hangzhou Han Meilin Art Museum", which opened on October 19, 2005 and is located at the other end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It highlights the rich history and cultural tension of the Grand Canal, and conveys a deep sense of geographical and cultural belonging to Mr. Han Meilin, who possesses a north-south bloodline and a strong patriotic feeling.
The renovation and transformation project of Han Meilin Art Museum in Beijing was completed in June 2013. After the expansion, the total construction area of the whole museum is about 12,000 square meters, forming a spatial layout that integrates display, teaching, interaction, leisure and other multi-functional functions. The whole museum now has two exhibition areas in the north and south, including the prologue hall, ceramics hall, comprehensive hall, sculpture hall, painting and calligraphy hall, new works hall and film hall in the north exhibition area, and the design hall, manuscript hall, alabaster hall and city sculpture hall in the south exhibition area. A total of more than 2,600 exhibits showcase Mr. Han Meilin's artistic achievements, versatile artistic talent and unlimited creativity in a comprehensive and systematic manner.
The pavilion was designed by Mr. Cui Kai, a famous architect in China. His design concept is that the art museum, as part of the opera theme park, has an important impact on the spatial pattern of the park with its location and form. If we consider the whole park as a natural landscape painting, then the art museum is exactly the seal that is stamped after the painting. The relationship between the seal and the painting corresponds to the relationship between the art museum and the park, which are indispensable and complementary to each other. Calligraphy and seal engraving are part of Mr. Han's artistic creation. Therefore, the character "Mei(beauty)" was chosen as the prototype of the art museum's floor plan, which corresponds to the functional space of the building with the strokes of calligraphy. At the same time, the character "Mei" is not only a character in Mr. Han's name, but also can be understood as the beauty of aesthetics and art, in which case, it has both realistic and abstract characteristics.
The art museum adheres to the development concept of "people-oriented", and all staff members strive to provide the most professional and humane services for the public. Under the guidance of Mr. Han's art philosophy and the purpose of the museum, the museum has been free to visit since its opening, hoping to attract more art lovers to experience the beauty of creation.
In 2013, the Han Meilin Art Museum in Beijing was officially rated as a national AAAA tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration, becoming the only individual art museum in China to be rated as a national AAAA tourist attraction, which further reinforces the important position of the Han Meilin Art Museum among national cultural and art communication institutions.
