Constructed in 1982, the new Memorial Hall of Xu Beihong, an influential Chinese artist and art educator, covers a total area of 3,900 square meters. It was open to the public in January 1983 and welcomed over 10,000 visitors each year.

Constructed in 1982, the new Memorial Hall of Xu Beihong, an influential Chinese artist and art educator, covers a total area of 3,900 square meters. It was open to the public in January 1983 and welcomed over 10,000 visitors each year.

It is a two-storey gray exhibition building with a lobby and seven exhibition rooms. The lobby displays Xu's self-portraits, huge photos and exhibition forewords. The exhibition rooms showcase his Chinese paintings, oil paintings, sketches, as well as his journey from a poor countryside to the international arena. The reduplication and precious relics of his studio are also displayed here.

Apart from the exhibition rooms, there is also a modern art gallery to preserve Mr. Xu’s works and his collections.

The memorial hall houses 1,286 Xu’s works, 1,134 his collections in Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and in modern times. Among them, the Scroll of Eighty-Seven Immortals in the Tang Dynasty, the Zhuyun Zhejiantu (Zhu Yun Broke Imperial Threshold) in the Song Dynasty, Wang Youjun Shushantu (Wang Xizhi Wrote on Fans) in the Ming Dynasty, and the Fengyuguizhou (Boat Returning amid Wind and Rain) by Jin Nong in the Qing dynasty are rare treasures. Besides, there are over 10,000 Chinese and foreign art books, rubbings from stone inscriptions and pictures.
