Beijing Botanical Garden

Located at the foot of Xishan Mountain, Beijing Botanical Garden covers an area of 400 hectares. It is a comprehensive botanical garden that mainly collects, displays and preserves plant resources, and integrates scientific research, scientific popularization, sightseeing and recreation, plant germplasm resource conservation and new superior plant development functions. The Beijing Botanical Garden consists of a plant exhibition area, a scientific research area, a famous monument area and a nature reserve. The garden collects and displays more than 1.5 million plants of 10,000 species (including varieties).
The exhibition area is divided into three parts: the Ornamental Plant Zone, the Tree Garden and the Greenhouse Zone. The ornamental plant area consists of special gardens, mainly the Chinese Rose Garden, Peach Blossom Garden, Peony Garden, Chinese Peony Garden, Lilac Garden, Begonia Cotoneaster Garden, Magnolia Garden, Jixiu Garden (Bamboo Garden), Hosta Garden and Plum Garden. The Chinese Rose Garden here is the largest Chinese rose garden in China at present, cultivating nearly 1,000 varieties.
The Peach Blossom Garden is the largest collection of peach blossom varieties in the world. The "Beijing Peach Blossom Festival" is held every spring and attracts millions of visitors. The Arboretum consists of Ginkgo, Pine and Cypress, Maple and Roses, Lime and Willow, Magnolia and Berberis, Pine and Oak, and Paulownia and Ash. The Tropical Plant Exhibition Conservatory was named one of the top ten buildings in Beijing in the 1990s. The Bonsai Garden mainly displays the skills and works of various schools of bonsai in China.
Beijing Botanical Garden Famous Monuments Area consists of the Reclining Buddha Temple, Cherry Gully, Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall, Tomb of Liang Qichao, and the site of Longjiao Temple. The Reclining Buddha Temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and is a national key cultural relic protection unit, containing a bronze statue of Sakyamuni recumbent in the Yuan Dynasty. Cherry Gully is densely wooded and is an important nature conservation education area in the suburbs of Beijing. The Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall shows the life of Cao Xueqin and the scenes of his writing the book Dream of the Red Chamber in the Xishan Mountain.
