For just 0.2 yuan, you can explore a hidden gem in Beijing. Shuangxiu Park, located east of Beitaipingqiao in Xicheng District, offers a unique and affordable experience that has retained its original ticket price since its opening. While others may offer free admission, Shuangxiu Park maintains its distinctive character by charging a mere 0.2 yuan.
Established in 1984, Shuangxiu Park was one of the ten parks built to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It stands out among Beijing’s parks as the only one designed with a Japanese-style garden.
The park consists of two sections: The Chinese-style Huifang Garden and the Japanese-style Cuishi Garden, hence its name, Shuangxiu (Double Beauty). The elegance and grace of Huifang Garden perfectly blend with the simplicity and artistic charm of Cuishi Garden. A Serene paths wind through green ponds and rocky landscapes, providing a tranquil setting. The riverside area exudes a peaceful ambiance with its ancient wooden bridges and fragrant pine forests. Ascending a set of steps, you’ll discover a small pine grove bathed in gentle sunlight, while a pathway meanders through colorful flower beds. Resting on a bench beneath the trees, surrounded by verdant foliage, you’ll feel as if you’ve escaped to an idyllic paradise.
Though Shuangxiu Park may be small in size, its meticulous design features lush trees, picturesque landscapes, and distinctive attractions such as Cuishi Garden, scenic stones, flowing pillows, and a stone plaza. Additionally, a charming vintage amusement park adds to the park’s appeal, making it a favored destination for nearby residents to relax, take leisurely strolls, play chess, or partake in lively square dances.
Tickets can be purchased on-site for a nominal fee of 0.2 yuan each. To reach the park, simply take bus routes 604, 847, or 885 and disembark at Beitaipingqiao East.
The symbol of this small park is a small red basket, which is very eye-catching against an ancient gray screen. It not only embodies the origin of Dahongluochang Street but also reflects the historical memory of this street for hundreds of years.
Although the area is only more than 280 square meters, it is small but fully functional. In addition to leisure seats, the path is also decorated with colorful geometric patterns. The neighbors walk slowly and take a break, while the children play and laugh, enjoying this comfortable "little happiness."
Rending Lake Park is a leisure park open to the public for free. It was built with the participation of the masses in 1958, underwent renovations in April 1994, and was completed in June 1996. Covering a total area of 9.2 hectares, with a water area of 1 hectare, the park is designed around a central lake.
