The scenic area mainly consists of Beijing Yanqi Lake International Conference Center, Yanqi Hotel, Yanqi Tower, and 12 state-guest villas. The terrain of Yanqi Island is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and the overall layout adopts the concept of the central axis of the royal garden. The 12 villas especially embody this design philosophy. Their construction integrates the core concept of “harmony in diversity” and water platforms in Chinese-style water-friendly architecture in south China, water courtyard space in traditional pile-dwelling in southwestern China, and so on. Therefore, specific characteristics and styles of different architectures are displayed in the villas.
Located at the foot of Yanshan Mountain and the side of the Great Wall, Yanqi Lake is named after the flocks of geese that often come to roost in the lake in spring and autumn every year. In 1985, Yanqi Lake was approved by the Beijing Municipal Government as a key tourism development project in Beijing during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period, and was officially opened to the public in 1987.
